Perks of the Job

My job doesn't have that many perks, besides the good health plan and numerous vacation days.

Yesterday, I was reminded of yet another perk. As a result of working in the hospitality industry, I am often invited to various open-houses held at hotels and restaurants designed to showcase their facilities and catering options.

Last night was the holiday celebration at Weber's Inn. I debated whether to go or not, but since I could bring a guest, I thought it would be fun for me and my husband to go.

I showed him the flyer and he said sure lets go, and so last night after work we went.

Now I have been to these things before so I knew sort of what to expect, he on the other hand thought maybe wine and cheese at best.

So anyway we arrived and it was held in the grand ballroom, which is huge. And the place was pretty crowded with people and food.

There was a pasta station with lobster pasta, salmon pasta and a vegetarian option, a carving station where they were carving pork loin and later prime rib, a fruit, cheese, vegetable and bread station, a hot station that had meatballs, canapes, crab cakes, and shrimp.

Then there was a whole dessert section with a chocolate fountain and many items to dip in it, chocolate truffles and other desserts.

In addition to all of the above, there was spiked egg nog and cider, a martini bar and two full bars.

My husband couldn't believe that this was all free and that we didn't have to talk to anyone or really mingle at all to get any of this. My supervisor from work was there, and we did talk to him and his wife for a few moments but other than that we spent about an hour snacking on different foods and drinks.

We ended up making that our dinner..which ended up being another bonus.

As we left, my husband was like, oh do you go to these sort of things often.
